Happy New Year, and a huge thank you for all your continuing love & support in 2016! Here’s to a new year where we can embrace the whirlwind, connect online and in person, and make magic happen.

2017 is set to be magical year and I’m so excited to see what we can create for ourselves and our community this year. It is a 1 number year in numerology (2+0+1+7 = 10 which is reduced down to 1).

This marks the beginning of a Universal 1 year and the beginning of a new 9-year cycle. There are powerful energies around us as we embark on this special year of new beginnings, creation and manifestation. 2017 is the year where we can create the opportunities to live the way we want to live.

This year, I am setting the simple intention of committing to the Meditation 365 challenge with the Insight Timer Meditation community. This is a challenge to meditate every day. It doesn’t matter what kind of meditation (mindful, guided, spiritual, just being still and breathing), or for how long (even a few minutes will make a huge difference to overall wellbeing).

I’m a qualified meditation teacher and meditate most days, but like most people I can often find myself making excuses about being too busy and not having time to relax. So, this is a promise to myself to meditate consistently daily and find those moments of calm, ease, and stillness in the day. It’s the cornerstone of my wellbeing practice this year (along with daily Reiki self-healing and returning to Tai Chi), and I’m interested to see what changes and benefits come out of this one simple habit in 2017. I’ll be blogging my experience and hope you’ll follow my journey throughout the year.

As the members of my meditation groups will testify, it’s often easier to meditate in a group, and the positive effects of meditation are amplified when we connect to the group energy around the world. So far over 38,000 people have taken the Meditate 365 pledge to meditate every day in 2017 so I’ll be in good company!

When you sign up to the app you become part of a global community of meditators and experts, including some favourites like Sharon Salzberg, Tara Brach, Bodhipaksa and Jack Kornfield. You can choose to listen to talks, classes, and guided meditations, or use the timer to do your own customised meditation. There’s even a social media platform so you can choose to join groups and get to know the people you’re meditating with if that’s your thing.

I’ve just set up a group on Insight Timer for those of you who can’t make it to a meditation session here in Whitley Bay but would like to join the beautiful energy of our weekly groups.
