How to Relax and Find Your Inner Calm in Two Minutes

Two minute meditation for relaxation and inner calm

Time is always one of the main barriers that stops people from meditating. We are used to rushing around, filling each moment with busyness, and feel that we simply don’t have enough time to stop, slow down and meditate.

My guess is that everyone, no matter how busy they are, can find two minutes for meditation. Maybe consciously putting down your mobile phone (how many minutes do you spend scrolling through social media posts each day?), spending a few moments in stillness before getting out of bed or going to sleep, taking a moment before you start the car or while you wait for the kettle to boil. There is always time in the day for relaxation and meditation.

With this in mind, I’ve written a short meditation that you can do whenever you find yourself with a few quiet minutes to spare.

Two Minute Meditation for Relaxation and Inner Calm

Get really comfortable in your chair or bed, and close your eyes as you take a few deep, slow, gentle breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth… allow your muscles to soften and relax, and your mind to settle into stillness as you focus on the in and out flow of the breath… the sensation of the air as it enters the body…

Draw your energies back to your centre, and take a moment to imagine a time when you have experienced yourself being totally relaxed, calm and peaceful…

And as you allow your unconscious mind to naturally create an image of yourself being relaxed, calm and peaceful, just notice how that feels… what you’re aware of seeing… hearing… where you are… who you’re with… what you’re doing… how the air feels on your skin… notice every sensation that lets you know you are relaxed, calm and peaceful…

And allow yourself to become more relaxed, calm and peaceful with each breath you take… breathing in relaxation and breathing out tension… breathing in calmness and breathing out anxiety… breathing in peace and breathing out any worries or fears that no longer serve you… breathing deeper and deeper into calmness… relaxation… peace…

And as you do… breathing and beginning to feel more relaxed, calm and peaceful, just see if you can amplify those feelings a little bit more, until you’re feeling even more calm, relaxed and peaceful than you even thought possible…

Now, spend a few moments enjoying these feelings of calm relaxation… allow the feelings of relaxation… calmness and peace to wash over you and through you… as you set the intention that you easily and simply find new and creative ways to incorporate these feelings of calm into your life in the days and weeks to come… knowing as you do that your unconscious mind will support your intentions and bring them to fruition…

And returning to normal breathing now… begin to bring your awareness back to the room and your body back to movement as you gently open your eyes…
