Autumn Leaf Meditation

Autumn Leaves

Can you feel Autumn in the air? The Autumn Equinox on Friday 22nd September 2017 brings in balance ready for the lengthening nights and slow, quiet, reflection. Day and night are of equal length, light and dark are perfectly balanced.

We can align our own energies and cycles to the turning of the Wheel of the Year, and this is the point on the wheel where we can settle into rest, relaxation and contemplation after the fiery energy of the summer has gone.

One of my favourite meditations at this time of year is the Autumn Leaf meditation.

If you can, get out in nature to soak in the colour of the Autumn leaves and share healing energy with trees while you meditate and connect to mother Earth. Alternatively, you can sit or lie down indoors, making sure you won’t be disturbed as you prepare to let go and relax.

Close your eyes and get really comfortable. Begin by taking 3 deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth and bring your awareness to your natural breath. Notice the gentle rise and fall of the lower abdomen with each inhalation and exhalation…

Imagine that you’re in a safe space in nature, close to beautiful old trees and a stream. Feel the sun on your face, the gentle breeze on your skin, hear the wind in the trees, the rustle of Autumn leaves and the sound of flowing water close by…

Continuing to focus on the breath, watch the brightly coloured leaves… the red, orange, yellow, gold and green Autumn leaves as they slowly fall to the earth, and as you do simply observe any thoughts that float into your mind…

As each though drifts into your awareness, place it on a leaf, watch it float on the breeze to the stream where it’s carried away. Just watch the leaves and your thoughts flow away on the stream as you continue to breathe and relax…

And as you continue to breathe and relax, you may wish to spend a few minutes reflecting on the following questions, or you may simply rest and focus on the breath…

As the trees let go and the Autumn leaves fall, what do you choose to let go of? What seeds of positive intention do you want to incubate over the winter, ready to grow and blossom next spring?

Allow the answers to bubble to the surface from the place of deep inner wisdom at your core…

When you’re ready, once again taking 3 deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth, stretch, and open your eyes.

Spend a few minutes journaling your experience and give thanks for the wisdom and guidance of your soul, and if you’d like to share your experience please leave a comment below.
